Case 1 · Export logistics

From first enquiry to a booked container, with no one at the carrier to call

Kerala exporters and a freight forwarder · 2022 to date

Aug 2026

first export container from TRV for a Kerala exporter

The challenge

Exporters new to Vizhinjam did not know which lines call, whom to speak to, or what transit and price to expect. Carrier offices are far away and enquiries often go unanswered.

What we did

We advised on routes, transit times and shipping options. We introduced exporters to carriers and agents, obtained quotations and followed up to booking. In September 2026 we found the carrier’s Thiruvananthapuram contact for a 25 × 40’ HQ consignment to Vancouver. The offer arrived within the sailing window.

The result

Bookings made and containers moved, including the first export container from TRV. We gave this support without payment.

Making the case for methanol bunkering at Vizhinjam, from proposal to feasibility study

Government of Kerala and port stakeholders · 2024 to 2025

17.5 t/day

methanol from one village-scale plant: 32 direct and 100 indirect jobs (GEMS working estimate)

The challenge

Shipping lines and fuel suppliers must invest without clear rules, and green-bunkering plans stall. Tuticorin moved on methanol bunkering while TRV did not.

What we did

We sent a methanol bunkering and green-fuel proposal to the Chief Minister’s Office in 2024. In December 2025 we completed a feasibility study. It links government policy, such as setting aside 50–60 acres, to port operations and expected calls by green-fuelled ships. It also looks at making methanol from local waste.

The result

Advisory is complete. Implementation is in planning.

Showing an export cluster what direct services from Vizhinjam can do for its transit times

A textile export cluster in Tamil Nadu · 2026

12–15 → 5–6 days

transit to Chittagong on a direct liner service, as reported to the cluster

The challenge

The cluster wanted to export to Bangladesh, Turkey and Germany. Direct vessel services from Vizhinjam were new to it.

What we did

We set out the direct liner options and compared transit times with the current routes. We also tracked cargo bound for Hamburg at the cluster’s request.

The result

The cluster drew strong interest in the Chittagong service and has started to study Vizhinjam as a main logistics hub.
