It is unprecedented for a multinational company to invest INR 130bn (~USD 1.5bn) in a single project in Kerala. Did anyone expect a company like MSC to invest such a massive amount to acquire a 49% stake in a local project? While most would say no, a rare few have always firmly believed that even larger investments would eventually arrive. However, the general public was not ready to accept this belief, often dismissing it as mere boasting.
MSC is just the beginning. If favourable conditions are provided, global capital will undoubtedly flow in. The reason is simple. While global GDP growth stagnates at 2.5-3.3%, India’s growth is projected at 6.5-6.7%. With global consumption potential not increasing significantly, countries like India are seen as having higher purchasing potential. While this includes several other countries in Africa and Asia, only India, alongside China, offers a consolidated market of nearly 1.5 billion people.
